Category Archives: LIFE AS I KNOW IT

At the ripe young age of 39 (ok I’m turning 39 in 10 days) lol I’m all about taking care of this maybe not so well oiled machine, I call my body!

But I have been trying to take care of my skin more so in the past few years, so I can prolong having to go under the knife, or just look like a old leather hand bag! Lets be clear…. I love Summer, I don’t use additional sunscreen that isn’t already in my moisturiser or foundation and I’m all about having a natural tan, for as long as I can.

I never get facials, but I was hearing chatter about Microdermabrasion and this new Yellow Light treatment from Laser Clinics Australia.
I have been seeing Danai and her gorgeous team from LCA at Wollongong Central for just over two years now and trust them with not just my laser hair removal, but my skin care regime as well.
So if I was going to have something new done, they would be my people to do it.

I went in last Saturday and was ready for my first Microdermabrasion, which was then followed by the new Yellow Light treatment.

Microdermabrasion is an intensive yet gentle exfoliation treatment that evens, tones and rejuvenates the skin… basically removing all dead skin, removing pimples and congested pores like black heads. I don’t have overally troubled skin, but I do have oily skin and I find working under harsh lights all day, I get little sweat pimples….however I have always had congestion on my nose and chin. Not overally visible, but I know they’re there.
From $50 per treatment.

Yellow Light (aka LED Light Therapy) is a healing light that penetrates deep in to the layers of skin causing rejuvenation, cell repair and increased circulation… a perfect treatment to have, after an intensive treatment.
$69 per treatment.

I’m now 3 days after my treatment and I noticed the following day, that my skin was glowing. I felt that my skin was a little dull and definitely not smooth to touch before my treatment, but as I said it wasn’t overally noticeable. But I couldn’t stop touching my skin the following day. I was able to go makeup free, which was nice and just continued with my normal skin care regime. The past two days back to work and I have noticed that my skin definitely as a more natural shine to it and my congested nose is DEFINITELY so much clearer and smoother. To be honest, I can’t wait to go again in about a week and so and have another treatment!

Here’s a little behind the scenes of how the treatment went. xo

On Saturday 12th November, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Land Rover Polo in the City as a VIP Media Guest in Sydney.

It was my second year attending the Polo, which is also known as the ever so glamorous and chic sister to Racing.
The day is a star studded event, with the top A-Listers and who’s who on the invitation list, so I was honoured to be involved with such an event again!

Definitely not a repeat of last year, the weather was absolutely gorgeous and for some even too HOT!! But all in all it ended up being a fantastic event. The energy and excitement on the day, definitely stood out for all.

Leading up to the day in Sydney, I wrote about the Fashion Do’s and Don’ts about what to wear to the POLO and Style Inspirations for Men and Women, taken at last year’s event…… and on the day, it was all about the FASHION oh and of course, the POLO!!

A massive thank you to Land Rover POLO IN THE CITY for the invitation, it was an absolute pleasure attending for my second year in a row and capturing the fashion and excitement of the day!

The Polo is a annual event, held in each major city throughout Australia and definitely a ‘MUST EVENT’ to add to the calendar!

Here’s a selection of images that I took on the day x enjoy!

“Sharing my personal teeth whitening experience!”

We all want the gorgeous Hollywood Smile….
I know for me personally, I had quite discoloured teeth…. from my daily routine of coffee drinking and then add a glass of red wine or two in there.. and bam, my teeth aren’t as bright as what they should be!!

I have always wanted to get my teeth whitened, but knew it was quite an expensive process at the dentist… and the ‘at home’ treatments from the chemist, just weren’t going to cut it!!

However last week I was THRILLED TO BITS to be invited by the team at Pure Smile in Sydney, to experience their Signature Cosmetic Teeth Whitening treatment.

Pure Smile are the official teeth whitening partners, for the latest Miss Universe contestants.. so I thought, if it’s good enough for them….then it has to be good!!

I went in on Friday to their Chatswood store which is located in Westfield Chatswood and was greeted by the lovely Lena, who went through the whole procedure and process with me.

I eagerlly sat down like an excited school girl, hoping that I would leave at the end of the process and feeling more confident with my smile!! And I did just that… as you will see below, my teeth were definitely not white and after my treatment.. they had a lovely natural white to them!!

Because my teeth were so discoloured, I didn’t achieve a porcelain white look… but I am planning on going back to have another treatment, to help achieve a whiter and brighter smile!! xo

Taking my skin care regime, to the next level!

At the ripe old age of 37 (ssshhhh I’m turning 38 next month) I get allot of compliments, saying I don’t look my age…. which is a nice thing to hear, but then I get the question.. what have you had done!!
I have never been under the knife, my lips are my own and I’m not against having what ever makes you happy.. but I want to share about some treatments that I have had, over the past 6 months that I believe have helped with how I look.

I have always taken care of my skin, it was something that my mother taught me at the age of 14. “It’s important to cleanse, tone and moisturizer… and always take your makeup off!” I would like to say that I have always tried to stick to these guidelines, but I have definitely gone to bed after a big night out, with my make up on!! Oh to be carefree and young again lol I also worked for a beautiful skin care product, Lancome… which taught me allot about skin on a deeper level.

But last year when I turned 37, I had a pre mid life crisis moment…. and I started to feel like the 40’s were closer then my 30’s and I felt for the first time, I looked like I was ageing. Now I must say, I’m pretty blessed with my mothers Spanish skin, where I really don’t have any wrinkles.. but I started to feel that my skin was looking dull and uneven. So as much as I was ‘taking care’ of my skin, I felt I needed something to shake it up!!

About this time last year, I met the gorgeous team from Laser Clinics Wollongong. The Manager Danai has taken care of my Laser treatment for about 8 months now and during one of my treatments, discussed their skin treatments. I wanted it all, but we started with an AHA Enzymatic Peel. I had never had anything like this before and I was really excited to see the end result.
* As you can see in the first image, my skin was looking a little dull even a little grey and I had very uneven skin tone.

skin first skin first

I could definitely notice a change to my skin after this treatment. It had more of a glow to it, but I still felt I needed something a little more intense. So I opted to have Dermo Rolling done or (needling as it’s called) You can view my little online video of the process here > Dermo rolling.
Having this treatment done, I believe really took my skin to the next level.

This is my skin now… Yes I have makeup on, but you can tell my skin definitely has a more even skin tone, it’s got a glow to it and I feel that it has a new sense of life….or maybe I just feel better about it!! Either way, I was definitely happy with the two treatments and I will endevour to continue to have them, every couple of months. x

When I think of the Body Shop, I think about being a young teenager (possibly 13) and purchasing my first ever lip balm in strawberry!!
I felt so grown up.. not only did it give my lips a gorgeous gloss, but it had a hint of colour!! I remember wearing that lip balm for years, no really… I think I may still have one in an unused bag somewhere! lol
And if it wasn’t the balms we were crazy about, it was the fragrance oils that every teenage girl wore to school… in scents of vanilla or musk, my fav was vanilla! Yes it was over 20 years ago, but they were fond memories!

So when I was contacted a couple of weeks ago, by the gorgeous staff at The Body Shop in Wollongong Central to be one of the first in Australia to trial the latest collection, I was so excited!!

Anyone that knows me, knows I absolutely LOVE Spa Treatments . So I was so thrilled to be gifted with The Body Shop ‘Spa of the World’ collection.

Of course I had to open it as soon as I got home and have a smell and a touch…
My first impressions, was the decent size of the products.. with the Sea Salts and Body cream at 350g… The second was the gorgeous texture and smell. Each of these products have a beautiful hint of scent, without being too overpowering!

The range includes… a gorgeous Dead Sea Salt Scrub – This is my favourite product, as I love a body scrub with decent sized salts and this is perfect. It doesn’t leave the skin dry at all like some scrubs, but leaves a little hint of oil on the skin.
Japanese Camellia Cream – This cream is so thick and rich! Made from a shea butter, it left my skin so soft… this has been my go to at night a the moment, as my skin has felt a little dry with this wonderful winter weather!
Moroccan Rhassoul Body Clay – I have only used this product once, but I absolutely love the smell of it.. It has a menthol smell and feel to it. So it has a tingle affect as it dries. I had to look up what Rhassoul meant, as I had never heard of the product before. (The rhassoul or ghassoul is a natural mineral clay mined in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco since the eighth century. It is combined with water to clean the body and has been used by Moroccan women for centuries to care for their skin and hair.) I love the history behind this product! I used it on my tummy (suggested area for firming) and it really felt quite lovely afterwards. I could definitely see where I had used it and my skin, as it was left so soft with a cooling feeling!
Polnesian Monoi Radiance oil – This particular product is used on your body and hair, however my hair is naturally oily so I think I will be keeping this gorgeous smelling product as a massage oil or on my legs in Summer!

This range is yet to be released in Australia, so I felt to grateful to be trying such a beautiful range of products. LOVED THEM!!
Definitely keep your eyes peeled for the launch of these products in store and a massive thank you to The Body Shop! xx

Now I know this is a very PERSONAL POST.. but I have had so many people wanting to talk to me about it, that I felt the need to share my story.

So as many of you may have read, I shared a personal journey with the Styled by Jade audience on laser hair removal. And I couldn’t believe the attention it received. Since my first post 4 weeks ago, I have received an influx of private messages, wanting to know how the journey is going! So I thought I would share it publicly and give everyone an update.

So just a little recap.. exactly 4 weeks ago yesterday, I started my own laser hair removal journey. I had my lip, underarms and bikini done. It’s recommended to come in after 2 weeks to get your lip done again and then come in after 4 weeks, to have the other areas done.

In the first week of having laser, I noticed hair growing on my underarms and bikini line, however it was just the original hair that was lasered. After a week, the hair started to fall out! I was so excited and surprised, of how quickly the treatment started to work. I thought I would have to have multiple sessions, before I started to notice anything at all. There was no redness, irritation… NOTHING!! In the past week, I have noticed very little fine hair growing on my underarms, but no where else!! So I went along to my second treatment yesterday and shared my excitement with the gorgeous Danai (Manager of Laser Clinics in Wollongong) I think she may have had a little chuckle or two at me and how excited I was!! lol

So impressed with the first treatment, I included my thighs in the laser process yesterday and was so surprised to not feel a single thing. The other areas, there was a little moment here and there, but my thighs were fantastic!! Now my hair is fairer on my thighs, so i don’t know if that’s the reason… but I’ll be interested to see how they grow back. I’ll keep you updated!!

I really need to share how happy I am and how excited I am about this Summer.. I truly wished that I had only started this process earlier!

Once again.. thank you to the gorgeous girls from Laser Clinics in Wollongong, for not only taking care of me but making me feel so comfortable in the process. x

p.s Winter is truly the best time to have this done!!!!

I KNOW I KNOW!! This subject is quite a personal one, but I want to open it up for discussion.

I have so many clients, male and female who deal with either being too hairy, sick of having to shave/wax or just like the idea of Laser Hair removal, but don’t know much about it.

I personally have been dealing with the subject of hair removal, for most of my life. I am blessed to be half Italian and half Spanish, but the down side is… I’m also blessed with being hairy! I have waxed my lip, arms, legs and bikini line for years…as well as the usual shaving of my arms bits and legs! And lets be clear, its a chore and it can be quite expensive! Can you imagine the clothing that I could have purchased with all that money!! lol

I had the pleasure of meeting Danai, the Manager of Laser Clinics in Wollongong Central over a month ago. And we had a quick chat about the services that they provide and the subject of Laser Hair removal, really interested me.

Laser Clinics Wollongong

So after having a free consultation and understanding what the process is… Yes you must let your hair grow out for 4 weeks, especially if you’ve been waxing (I know I know) that’s why I picked Winter lol I started the process today. I must admit, I was really nervous!! I think I was more scared about the not knowing and the chatter of it hurting, feelings of elastic bands flicking your skin ooouuuucccchhhh!! It all got to me and I felt like a little kid, about to give blood!! Mind you… I have numerous tattoos on my body, that I have no problem with getting… go figure!! 🙂
Danai and her team made me feel so comfortable, explained the whole process to me again and discussed the possible side effects, how the machine works and how many treatments I may need.
HOW DID IT GO, YOU ASK? Well I was more nervous that what I needed to be…. it was the expectation of it hurting, that got me so nervous. I had my lip, underarms and bikini done. Did it hurt? NO I wouldn’t say it hurt, but it didn’t tickle either. Most of the time, I didn’t really feel anything, there were times I felt something for a split second and there were a couple of times that I felt a little flick, I guess you could call it. But that was mainly in the more sensitive areas.

I will definitely be going back.. I’m really looking forward to this Summer and not having to worry about shaving and waxing and the whole negative process of dealing with hair removal in general. To be honest, I wish I did it earlier.

I just want to thank the amazing and very professional team at Laser Clinics in Wollongong, for making this journey a positive one.

I would love to hear your hair removal stories x
